Who this suits
Worth a look if
- You want it to turn up as furniture rather than as a woodworking project.
- You have a wall you can drill into and want the cabinet held flat and solid against it.
- You want the lift to feel light and even, and you would rather not re-tension anything.
- The room has to work as a living room by day, and you do not want to shift furniture to open the bed.
Look elsewhere if
- Price is the binding constraint. This sits at the upper end of what we track.
- You want a choice of sizes. This model is offered in queen only.
- You cannot make holes in the wall. This one is designed to be anchored to it.
What Expand Furniture publishes, and what it does not
We track 14 figures on a finished bed before calling a record complete. Expand Furniture publishes 13 of them for the MurphySofa Stratus - Queen 2 Seat Sofa Wall Bed. The 1 it leaves out are worth knowing before you buy, because each one is a decision you will end up making without the maker's help.
- Not published: panel materials. Which means no material is named, so you cannot tell whether the cabinet is plywood, MDF or particleboard behind the finish.
We leave these blank rather than estimating them. A — in our tables is always a gap in the manufacturer's own documentation, never a number we chose not to look up.
What people get wrong with this one
Buying the mattress first
Murphy beds cap mattress thickness because the mattress has to fold into the cabinet with the bed. This one stops at 10 inches. A mattress bought before the bed is the most common expensive mistake in this category.
Ignoring the mattress weight window
The lift is balanced against a mattress weight range, and this one is rated to 100 lbs. Too light and the bed drifts open on its own, too heavy and it takes real effort to close.
Anchoring into drywall alone
A wall mounted bed transfers real load into the wall. Studs or solid blocking are not optional, and finding them before delivery day saves an unhappy afternoon.
